PATCO Fights Wage Disparity.......

February 14, 2008

PATCO has initiated a program to address the substantial wage inequity within the FCT program between the Air Traffic Controllers and the Flight Service Station (FSS) Specialist.

At the present time, FSS specialist in the private sector are making more than 40% in wages compared to the Air Traffic Controllers who are also working in the private sector. This serious wage disparity needs to be addressed by the FAA / DOL immediately.

The Air Traffic Controllers in the private sector deserve better than what they are presently receiving.  PATCO will fight to enhance and protect your profession, and ensure that your voice is heard.

Air Safety

Air Traffic Controllers Working Alone !

Air Traffic Controllers who work in the private sector control towers are understaffed, and in many cases they are working alone. These towers are under contract by the FAA to private contractors, and the staffing at many of these facilities falls below the standards of what the FAA would allow in their Federal Towers.

At times during any given shift, there is only one controller on duty in the tower, or even within the facility. The Controllers are being overworked on operational positions, without breaks, rotation or a back up. The Professional Controllers who man these private towers meet or exceed the same requirements as their counterparts in the Federal sector, and they deserve better.

Air safety should always be the highest priority, and minimum staffing to the point of only one controller on duty does not meet safety standards. PATCO is working to enhance air safety and the archaic working condition of these highly dedicated Air Traffic controllers. The flying public and taxpayers who are paying for the service should demand that changes be made immediately.

A brighter future for the Air Traffic Control Professional !

The job of being an Air Traffic Controller is one of the most demanding and stressful professions in the world. Split second decisions compounded with an overwhelming workload are in the trusted hands of the ATC Professional whose job is to provide for the safe, orderly and expeditious flow of Air Traffic. Lives are at stake, and no matter how tense the situation may become, there is no margin for error.

The Professionals who work in the private towers around the nation are the backbone of the National Airspace System. They can be seen behind the glass in the Control Tower at almost every hometown airport in America.  They perform their job above and beyond what is required of them, but excessively stressful conditions can result in burnout, which could lead to trouble in the skies.

These Professional Controllers in the private sector are required to meet and comply with the same exact high standards as their Federal counterpart, yet they are not compensated commensurate to the Federal sector controllers. The disgrace to the profession is that these highly skilled pros are underpaid, overworked, understaffed and ill equipped.

A brighter future for the Professional Air Traffic Controller is in order and long overdue.

You are Professionals and deserve better, and it can start now, with PATCO.
